Day 33

Today we are going to pray for Seton’s brain stem.
The brain stem is deep in the brain and it leads to the spinal cord. Its functions are:
  • Breathing, Heart Rate, Swallowing Reflexes, seeing and hearing (Startle Response)
  • Controls sweating, blood pressure, digestion, temperature (Autonomic Nervous System)
  • Affects level of alertness
  • Ability to sleep
  • Sense of balance (Vestibular Function)
Observed Problems
  • Decreased vital capacity in breathing, important for speech
  • Swallowing food and water (Dysphagia)
  • Difficulty with organization/perception of the environment
  • Problems with balance and movement
  • Dizziness and nausea (Vertigo)
  • Sleeping difficulties (Insomnia, sleep apnea)

As you all know Seton does not really know how to swallow and here recently he doesn’t seem to remember how or when to sleep…he was up til 6:30am! So he is crashed out in bed right now. He was awake yesterday for most of the day he took 1 short nap around 1:30pm and started dosing off around 7:30pm so we had him in bed by 8:15, (normally he is in bed by 9:15pm). The earlier bed time did not work. We have tried everything from baths, reading books, calming lotion, listening to music, to sleeping on his changing table (which he likes the most) nothing seems to get him in a pattern, what works one night will not work the next…

Two Blind Men Receive Sight
29 As Jesus and his disciples were leaving Jericho, a large crowd followed him. 30 Two blind men were sitting by the roadside, and when they heard that Jesus was going by, they shouted, “Lord, Son of David, have mercy on us!”
31 The crowd rebuked them and told them to be quiet, but they shouted all the louder, “Lord, Son of David, have mercy on us!”
32 Jesus stopped and called them. “What do you want me to do for you?” he asked.
33 “Lord,” they answered, “we want our sight.”
34 Jesus had compassion on them and touched their eyes. Immediately they received their sight and followed him.
